How durable is LVP?
Typically, LVP durability is measured through the thickness of the wear layer. This is measured in “mils” (.10 of an mm). The thicker the mil, the more scratch-resistant, abrasion-resistant, and less likely that surface will exhibit deterioration. Wear layers start at 6 mils and typically go up to 20 mils.

Is luxury vinyl waterproof?
Certainly, both LVP and LVT are 100% waterproof flooring options for clients’ use.

Can I put the new floor right over the old floor?

Some prep work is often required depending on the specific type of floor being installed, however, generally, many new floor options can be installed over the old floors without having to tear or the old ones.

Is LVP/LVT good for pets?
Luxury vinyl is a great floor if you have a pet. It’s waterproof, scratch-resistant, and easy to install. It is certainly your best bet if you have pets.

How often should I clean my carpet?
Though it differs depending on the carpet type, however, most manufacturers suggest getting your carpet professionally cleaned every 12-18 months.

What is the difference between LVP and LVT?
LVP and LVT are very similar, the main differences being the patterns and how they are installed. LVT can be click-lock or glued down and grouted. LVP generally looks more like wood planks while LVT is made to look like tile.

When can I use the space after the install is finished?
Depending on the surface some floors are ready to be used immediately after installation. For glue-down products like some carpet and sheet vinyl, 24-48 hours is a good general rule of thumb.

Are vinyl and linoleum the same thing?
No, while both products are examples of resilient flooring, they are manufactured with different materials. Vinyl flooring consists of vinyl, felt and fiberglass, linoleum is made from natural materials such as linseed oil, tree resin, cork dust, and wood flour.

Do I really need carpet padding?
Yes, carpet padding is a critical piece to overall floor comfort and longevity. Without it, your carpet will rub directly against the subfloor and the carpet fibers take more abuse. Carpet pads also help insulate and dampen sound in your space.

Can you grout LVT?
It depends on the type of LVP you are installing. Most groutable LVT is installed in a glue-down application. If your options are a floating floor grout is typically not required.
